Jesus Land

http://sandhill.typepad.com/sandhill_trek/2004/11/jesus_land.html

This has been making the rounds on the Internet amongst the secessionist Blue-State cry-babies.

Now, I realize this may be anathema to Bill Marr, but I feel confident in describing myself as BOTH Rational AND Christian.

To quote Michael Covington (http://www.covingtoninnovations.com/michael/blog/) via Jeff Duntemann (http://www.duntemann.com/Diary.htm):

The historic Christian position is that faith is rational; it consists of having the gumption to follow the weight of the evidence where it leads, and not waver due to personal difficulties or temptations.  In the words of C. S. Lewis, "I am an empirical theist."

I will point out that this is an interesting map projection (look it up) that, in depicting only North America (and that Texas is the Southern-most point) makes Canada LOOK comparable land-wise.  (In reality, the land mass up North is much more, well, massive...  ;->)  Much has been made of US (the Reds) as living in "fly-over" country.  Take it from me, I have driven the populated portion of that map, along the Trans-Canada highway in the Western Provinces.  You can see where it runs, just North of where the upper-left side of the Green is "chopped-off" to a more-or-less horizontal line.  (The fact that is is actually slightly curved gets back to the whole map-projection thing.  You DID look it up, didn't you?)  If you think the area you derisively label Jesusland is sparsely populated, and thusly dismissible, you should head up North.  (You DID know that over 90% of Canucks live within 50 miles of the border, yes?)  Go up to the far reaches and we are REALLY talking about miles and miles with nothing but miles and miles.  And COLD.  Tundra.  Ice-flows.  Hey! Go for it!

I would, however, not consider this a RATIONAL choice.

Hell, the way the Western Provinces get treated now, I doubt they are going to think this will be any benefit to them.  As long as we are re-arranging things, they might just want to "join-up" with US.

That said, I feel obligated to inform you that you are, once again, WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
Even people who are not particularly religious, use the same moniker as us irrational religious nut-cases.  So, just so you know, the REAL name for the Red States is:

God's Country
