The words of Winston Churchill in a speech before the British Parliament in 1939 ring true today:

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may be even a worse fate. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish then to live as slaves."

Happy First Week of Advent

The Magnificat or Song of Mary:

"My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.

For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.

And his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.

He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent empty away.

He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever."

Ode to the Left (be Heinz)

By George! We've Been Out-Foxed!"

                    or

("Ode to the Left Be-Heinz")

 by Tom Graffagnino

__________________________

When polls were closed,

We all supposed

It couldn't be much closer!

Now Libs are torn,

Downcast...Forlorn,

And Soros is moroser!

The votes were cast,

And now at last

The counting could begin.

Monsieur LaMoore

Was very sure

His flick would do George in.

But now instead,

The states are Red,

And Hollywood is Blue.

Ben Affleck's mad,

Sarandon's sad,

And Whoopi's come unglued!

Begala whines,

The Left Be-Heinz,

"The Boss" just wonders..."HOW!?"

James Carville pouts,

O'Donnell shouts...

No time to Ketchup now!

The Kerry Crowd

Was brash and loud;

The cool and hip were pumped!

In Franken-Land

They took their stand...

"War Hero" John's been dumped.

At CBS?

Lord, what a mess!

Dan Rather wears a frown.

He's quite distressed...

Some say depressed.

Poor Dan,

He's goin' down.

There's "Hardball" Chris,

Who loved to kiss

The rear of liberal guests...

Convention night

Ol' Zell was right...

To that we may attest.

At CNN

It's sinkin' in...

Oh my! They're all in shock!

"Ohio's RED!"

"John Kerry's Dead!"

"By George! We've been out-Foxed!"

Political Poem Primer

Kerry, Kerry, quite Contrary,

How did Ohio go?

You made the push, to beat George Bush,

but overlooked Carl Rowe!

You padded the vote, with even a goat,

and lawyers ready to rally!

But try as you may, on that given day,

fell short on the ultimate tally!!

With CBS Dan, you made your stand,

and labeled the Prez a liar!

The "Elitist" beamed as "Farenheit" screened,

and Teddy belched deep from the mire!!

The Media said, that you were ahead,

and winning by you, a "cinch"!

They just couldn't wait, to end the debate,

and Crown you and the "pickle-wench"!!

But from the waters of Nam, and praise of the "Cong",

Your past had the stench of a "paddy"!

After all's said and done, about who's Number One!

GW is still yo Daddy!!!!

ColonoscoQuotes

A physician claimed that the following are actual comments made by his patients (predominately male) while he was performing their colonoscopies:

1. "Take it easy, Doc. You're boldly going where no man has gone before!"
2. "Find Amelia Earhart yet?"
3. "Can you hear me NOW?"
4. "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"
5. "You know, in Arkansas, we're now legally married."
6. "Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?"
7. "You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out..."
8. "Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!"
9. "If your hand doesn't fit, you must quit!"
10. "Hey Doc, let me know if you find my dignity."
11. "You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?"
12. "God, Now I know why I am not gay."
And the best one of them all...
13. "Could you write a note for my wife saying that my head is not up there."

Google Desktop Search - A gMail related Outlook Query

MrGadgets has also joined the “Beta” test of Google Desktop Search.

WOW!

Here is a review:

MrGadgets DID opt OUT of sending info. on his searches to Google while running the install.

Get it here:

http://desktop.google.com/

Let me know what you think.

I love the search speed.  Likewise the search speed in gMail has me hooked, big-time.

With that in mind, does anybody know of a way to move my ‘archive’ of mail in Outlook to gMail?

Is there a way to select and re-mail multiple messages from Outlook?

Once again, let me know of any ideas you have.

Top 10 Cyber-Security Urban Legends

Have you heard that answering your cell phone can give you a computer virus?  This and other fanciful tales make up a list of urban legends compiled by Secure Computing Corp. Without further ado, we offer the list:

1.         Hackers can legally break into Web sites that lack “warning” notices.  (Untrue — breaking into Web sites is illegal whether they carry warning notices or not.)

2.         Some Windows system files are really malicious and should be deleted.  (False!  This myth is perpetuated by the several e-mail hoaxes.)

3.         Hotel card keys secretly record personal information.  (Nope.  The information on these cards is limited to room number, check-out time, and other non-identifying information.)

4.         Including a fake entry in your e-mail address book will prevent e-mail Trojan-horse attacks.  (Simply untrue.)

5.         A digital cell phone can be infected with a virus merely by answering a phone call.  (There’s no evidence that any virus can be spread this way.)

6.         Search engine “crawlers” perform security checks and notify you of vulnerabilities.  (No search engines do this – but it’s a nice idea.)

7.         Thieves use lists of “out-of-office” auto-replies to target homes for burglary.  (There are no such reported cases, but this is indeed feasible.)

8.         Free patches e-mailed to you will protect your PC from the latest worm or viruses.  (This is a sneaky “social engineering” trick employed by hackers.)

9.         Signing up with a Do Not Spam registry will stop you from getting spam.  (There is no such registry.)

10.       “E-cards” from Elf Bowling and Blue Mountain Greeting Cards contain viruses.  (This is a bogus charge, but you should always be skeptical about e-mail unless you know who sent it and why.)

The Democratic National Committee

The same article (http://www.sltrib.com/nationworld/ci_2464265) quotes Donna Brazile and mentions she is a member of the Democratic National Committee.

The 400-plus member Democratic National Committee.

Now, I have no idea of the size of the Republican National Committee.

I will state outright that I would never consider the word committee to describe a group of over 20 people, let alone over 400.

I can only image how Roberts Rules of Order work with 400-plus members as fractionalized as the present-day Democratic Party…

There is an old joke in the computer industry:  (Apologies to any COBOL programmers out there…)

COBOL is a language designed by committee.

Definition of a camel:  A horse designed by committee…

What Was He Thinking?

According to this story:

http://www.sltrib.com/nationworld/ci_2464265

John Kerry has millions of dollars of campaign funds remaining in his war-chest.

What exactly does this mean?

Here are the possibilities, as I see it:

  1. The internal polling within the campaign were as biased and blue-sky as the exit-polling and they thought they didn’t NEED to spend it.
  2. They were such poor bookkeepers that they didn’t REALIZE they had the surplus.
  3. The internal polling indicated the what the actual outcome would be and they made a conscious decision to keep the money for a 2008 run.
  4. He was never serious in the first place.

I put it to you that 1 and 2 indicate gross incompetence.

3. indicates almost as much delusion as 1.

As Mr. McLaughlin would say:  The ANSWER is FOUR!

  1.

Jesus Land

http://sandhill.typepad.com/sandhill_trek/2004/11/jesus_land.html

This has been making the rounds on the Internet amongst the secessionist Blue-State cry-babies.

Now, I realize this may be anathema to Bill Marr, but I feel confident in describing myself as BOTH Rational AND Christian.

To quote Michael Covington (http://www.covingtoninnovations.com/michael/blog/) via Jeff Duntemann (http://www.duntemann.com/Diary.htm):

The historic Christian position is that faith is rational; it consists of having the gumption to follow the weight of the evidence where it leads, and not waver due to personal difficulties or temptations.  In the words of C. S. Lewis, "I am an empirical theist."

I will point out that this is an interesting map projection (look it up) that, in depicting only North America (and that Texas is the Southern-most point) makes Canada LOOK comparable land-wise.  (In reality, the land mass up North is much more, well, massive...  ;->)  Much has been made of US (the Reds) as living in "fly-over" country.  Take it from me, I have driven the populated portion of that map, along the Trans-Canada highway in the Western Provinces.  You can see where it runs, just North of where the upper-left side of the Green is "chopped-off" to a more-or-less horizontal line.  (The fact that is is actually slightly curved gets back to the whole map-projection thing.  You DID look it up, didn't you?)  If you think the area you derisively label Jesusland is sparsely populated, and thusly dismissible, you should head up North.  (You DID know that over 90% of Canucks live within 50 miles of the border, yes?)  Go up to the far reaches and we are REALLY talking about miles and miles with nothing but miles and miles.  And COLD.  Tundra.  Ice-flows.  Hey! Go for it!

I would, however, not consider this a RATIONAL choice.

Hell, the way the Western Provinces get treated now, I doubt they are going to think this will be any benefit to them.  As long as we are re-arranging things, they might just want to "join-up" with US.

That said, I feel obligated to inform you that you are, once again, WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
Even people who are not particularly religious, use the same moniker as us irrational religious nut-cases.  So, just so you know, the REAL name for the Red States is:

God's Country

The Sad Passing of an Era

The Liberal Militant A-thiest Leftist faction has achieved a new high-point in their continual push to re-write history and 'cleanse' the public-sector of any and all references to any higher power.

As of today, Monday, November 15th, 2004 AD (Hah! Take THAT you PC scum!) US Military Bases can no longer directly sponsor Boy Scout Troops. The reason? Members of the Boy Scouts profess a belief in God.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002091955_ndig16.html

Let me state at the outset, I got no dog in this hunt. I was never afforded the opportunity to join the venerable ranks of the B. S. of A. I, being a recovering Southern Baptist, instead belonged to an organization called the Royal Ambassadors.

http://www.kidzplace.org/adult/royal-ambassadors/who_are_ras.asp

It IS worth noting, that this organization was a Southern Baptist Scouting replacement BECAUSE the Baptists must have found the B. S. of A. NOT CHRISTIAN ENOUGH!

Witness the Royal Ambassador pledge:

As a Royal Ambassador I will do my best:
to become a well-informed, responsible follower of Christ;
to have a Christ-like concern for all people;
to learn how to carry the message of Christ around the world;
to work with others in sharing Christ; and
to keep myself clean and healthy in mind and body.

Obviously, the last line is the token clue that this is Scouting in another guise.
As it was, we spent time camping, crafting and collecting badges.
Sound familiar?

That said, my best friend is an Eagle Scout, as is my youngest daughter's beau.
I have nothing but respect for Scouting. I think it is a great program and can think of no sane person who could state otherwise.

Which brings us back to the group who have forced, through legal challenges, yesterday's decision.

They will ignore and obfuscate any and all historical background to interpret the language of the U.S. Constitution to fit their views.

The single supportable argument I can find in this process is that no tax money should be spent by the government on any item offense to one's personal beliefs. Where this falls by the way-side, in my mind, is that this whole church-state thing is the sole category where an, admittedly, limited group dictates and even over-rides the belief and will of the majority.

Just how far will this lead? Many, nay, most Scouting organizations are sponsored by Churches. Churches receive tax-exempt status. Should this also be limited? Then again, most Churches profess a belief in God. (Most ;->) Should this tax-advantage not also be questioned? Where, exactly, does the slippery-slope end?

Shall we split hairs and argue the financial benefit derived from such sponsorship and pro-rate the tax revenue NOT collected? Careful now. If the government funds condom education for Planned Parenthood, does that not allow that organization to use their other sources of income for purposes which I might find objectionable? (Here we start talking about SERIOUS portions of the Constitution and the Declaration. Whatever you might think, nobody ever DIED because someone you never meet says the Boy Scout pledge on an Air Force base in Boise...)

Rather than belabor this point, I propose a simple solution: Anyone should, at their option, be able to deduct from their income-taxes, the proportional amount used to subsidize any activities of this Freedom-suppressing organization on Military Reservations. You can even round UP. This should save you upwards of one cent.

As if anything about this decision MAKES CENTS...

Historic Date in US Military History

On this date 229 Years ago the United States Marine Corp was founded.

As the Marine Hymn goes:
From the Halls of Montezuma. (The Mexican War. 1846-1848)
To the Shores of Tripoli. (Operations against the Barbary pirates.)
They have fought their country's battles,
On the Land, the Sea AND in the Air.

The Marine Corp is a unique fraternety, with the ability to bring to bear highly mobile firepower and deploy said firepower with swiftness and certainty.

In short, they kick butt and take names.

Semper Fi.

Is it Any Wonder?

The Airwaves/Newspapers/Magazines/Blogspace is filled with analysis and angst.

Hey!  Donkey-Boy!

Purchase a piece of investigative information!

I was watching Fox this weekend (Sunday, I think) and was watching Cavuto interview the editor of Time.

I suppose this was one of the myriad attempts to explain away the Kerry defeat.  (I’m talking about HER motivation, not Cavuto’s…)

ANYWAY, at one point she is trying to explain John Kerry’s deep-felt religious belief that somehow did not resonate with the electorate.  She lamented the apparent lack of understanding of the common-man to Lurch’s subtly nuanced faith.

She cited anecdotes during his time in Private Boarding School.

In SWITZERLAND.

And she was serious.  Honest.

And this is the party of the little guy?

Interesting Iraq Info.

IRAQ - VERY INTERESTING - DID YOU KNOW?
1. The
garden of Eden was in Iraq..
2. Mesopotamia, which is now
Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!
3. Noah
built the ark in Iraq.
4. The
Tower of Babel was in Iraq.
5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in
Southern Iraq!
6. Isaac's
wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in Iraq..
7.
Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.
8. Jonah
preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.
9. Assyria, which is in
Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel.
10.
Amos cried out in Iraq!
11. Babylon, which is in
Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem.
12. Daniel was in the
lion's den in Iraq!
13. The three
Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had been in Iraq also as the fourth person in the fiery furnace!)
14. Belsh! azzar, the
King of Babylon saw the "writing on the wall" in Iraq..
15. Nebuchadnezzar,
King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq..
16. Ezekiel
preached in Iraq.
17. The wise
men were from Iraq.
18.
Peter preached in Iraq.
19. The "
Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon, which was a city in Iraq!

And you have probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation is second? It is Iraq! However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible. The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia. The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep roots.

Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant
country
in the Bible.

No other nation, except Israel, has more history and prophecy
associated
it than Iraq! .

And also... This is something to think about! Since America is
typically
represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages...

The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible)
Koran
(9:11) - For it is
written that a son of Arabia would awake a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.
(Note the verse number!) Hmmmmmmm?! God Bless you all Amen !

Sports Team Results Accurately Predicting Presidential Elections

Maybe it's kind of like leap years?

So, the new rule is:
---
When the Washington Redskins Win their last home game before the Presidential Election the incumbent wins,
and when they lose, the challenger wins...

Unless the Boston RedSox have just won the World Series.
---
Yeah, yeah! That's it!

Latest News on the 'New Tone' from KC

On the TV news this morning:

An Independence man woke up early Thur. morning to deliver the KC Star only to find the delivery van and his house had been vandalized.  Anti-Bush statements had been spray-painted, his property trespassed and damaged apparently because of a yard-sign he displayed during the recent campaign.

Does not bode well for the Healing Process so much the subject matter of the talking heads the past few days.

It's the VALUES Stupid

It's not about the Religious Right. Or not just about them.
It's not about Religious Jews, or practicing Catholics, both Upper and lower case.
Hell, it's even about Agnostics and even a good number of A-Theists.

It's NOT about Gay Marriage, if you limit it to simple concepts and sound-bites you will never 'GET IT'.

I assume that even those 24 years and younger, are familiar with the infamous "It's the ECONOMY Stupid" sign, lo these 12 years ago, when you were but 12 years old, if that yourselves.

Half of the Democrat message was variations of this theme from the pre-9-11 playbook. The other was straight-out Deaniac anti-war rhetoric that allowed Lt. (jg) John Kerry re-live his youth.

Clearly, this one-two punch never really connected a solid hit.

Part was the messenger. Even Kerry's base never really LIKED Kerry.

But even with all that, this election was won on a different basis.

Don't get me wrong,
It IS about God or the Creator, or some higher power for most. But not all.

The Republican Tent really was bigger this time around and, unlike the Donkeys, it's not filled with people with basically different sometimes incompatible interests who are united only by what the Party can DO to benefit them. Instead it is filled with people who have found COMMON GROUND.

What COMMON GROUND?

It's about the Positive, not the Negative.

It's about Personal Responsibility.

It's about Family. It's about security of your loved ones. It's about the little-publicized fact that the REAL market in movies is NOT R and above. The REAL money is G-rated.

It's about love of Country. Of Patriotism. Of recognizing that the Bill of Rights is paid-for by the Blood and Sweat of the American Military in harms way.

It's about the public service of police and fire departments who place their lives on the line for little monetary gain. And that some Gansta' shouting about shooting one of these heroes is not 'edgy' it's OVER THE LINE.

It's about Valuing Effort and Pursuing Knowledge.

It's about Substance over Style.

It's about Right and Wrong, and the Knowledge that there IS a Difference.

It's about the existence of Evil, and the courage to face it down.

It's about Core Beliefs.

It's about Life, Liberty and the PURSUIT of Happiness.

About Life, Faculties and Production.

It's Truth, Justice and the American Way.

A Plea for Democracy

Message
A Plea for Democracy
By William Tucker
Published 10/28/2004 12:08:56 AM
http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=7314

I wasn't going to write this column unless John Kerry wins next Tuesday. Now I realize it's better to say it all now before we know who wins the election.

I have one plea to conservatives. If the Democrats do manage to squeak through next week, I have one request: Let's let this guy govern. I know it's going to be tempting to scream foul or to start making fun of his daughters or to put under the microscope whether John Kerry really was in Cambodia for Christmas 1968.

But let's at least give him the chance to pull the country together.

American democracy has been taking a beating lately. Looking at the emotions running loose now, you begin to understand why democracy doesn't always work in other countries.

The mistake about democracy is to believe that the only thing that matters is the majority rules. That isn't true. Majority rule is only half the story and probably not the most important part. What is more important is that the losers are willing to accept the verdict.

For the last four years the Democrats have come perilously close to defying this principle. They have never accepted the legitimacy of George Bush's victory in 2000, even though it's written right there in the Constitution. From that point it's been easy to proceed to the premise that we wouldn't be in Iraq and maybe the terrorists wouldn't have even attacked at all if George Bush hadn't been President. The result is the state of unreality the Democrats inhabit today.

If the Democrats lose again this time, I think they're going to go over the cliff. There are elements of the Democratic Party that are so self-righteous that I doubt they'll be able to function as a minority party. They'll go extracurricular, stonewalling court nominations, disrupting Congress, parading in the streets and taking "direct actions" to try to accomplish what they can't win in the voting booth.

Unfortunately, the worst thing that could happen is for the Republicans to turn into a mirror of that party. We had a lot of this during the Clinton era. The demonizing of Bill and Hillary Clinton, the snooping around in their sex lives -- I was never very happy with any of that. Granted Bill Clinton was a libertine, but I don't think anybody can withstand too much scrutiny of their personal life.

The fact remains that the country was reasonably well governed during the Clinton era. We balanced the budget, passed welfare reform, and created a good deal of economic prosperity. The things that we didn't do right -- ignoring the terrorist threat, allowing nuclear proliferation -- were part and parcel of the deal and have now been corrected. Altogether, though, divided government isn't that bad. Even if Kerry wins, the Republicans will still control Congress, so it won't be a complete disaster.

There's one more thing that makes a reasonable acceptance of the will of the majority well advised. Kerry is going to lose his electoral base faster than any President in history. At least half his constituency thinks that once he wins we'll be out of Iraq in three months. This isn't going to happen. When all the electoral balloons have floated away, Kerry will face the same dilemma George Bush now faces -- a hostile Middle East, an indifferent Europe, a fragile democracy in Iraq, and a world where rogue nations are acquiring nuclear weapons as fast as possible.

Kerry is not Jimmy Carter -- a Dogpatch simpleton who thinks he can fool the world by grinning. (He does have a vice president who fits the description, but that's another story.) Kerry has enough aristocratic starch in him that he may be able to stand up for his country if it becomes necessary.

It will become necessary. After six months in office, Kerry will be seeking asylum from the pacifist loonies that surround him. At this point, the Republicans will be in a position to accommodate him. They can then co-govern, exactly as they did with Bill Clinton.

But all this will be possible only if we don't first destroy the Presidency in the process of choosing one. For the sake of the Republic, what Republicans should exercise now is a little intelligent self-restraint.

Political Irony

I would not have been surprised to have some 'friction' while working the poll this evening. I had even worked through some scenarios in my mind, to prepare just that right verbal retort.

As it turned out, I had a very pleasant few hours talking about all kinds of issues with a very nice lady who was working the poll for the State Rep. race for the Democrat Party candidate. Although we were on opposite ends of the spectrum politically, we were amiable as could be.

Of course, we were talking innocuous topics like POLITICS.

My Final Election

Well, I have returned home and am monitoring the various networks for election results, as, no doubt, are most of you.

Unless something unusual happens, this will be the last election in which I take active participation. Not because my candidate lost, for this is the unfortunate outcome of the Congressional race here in the Fifth District of Missouri.

I suppose I could be accused of exaggeration in my disappointment in the results of this contest. We fought the good fight, although my recent work-related travel limited my local activity. But we came closer than anyone, including, to be honest, I would have ever thought possible when I was initially motivated to take an active role in the campaign.

Yes, I am disappointed. But I was finally one of those people in the hotel ballroom fighting back emotion as their candidate makes 'The Concession Speech'. Instead of just watching it at home on television.

But that is not why this is my last campaign.

The why is because of events that happened before that Concession Speech.

And, ironically, it relates to a television broadcast.

At several times during the evening the Chairman of the Jackson County Republican Party, a Mr. Bunk Farrington, Esq. (I found out later.) would step up onto the podium, approach the lectern and attempt to get the attention of the crowd by using the anemic public-address system provided by the hotel. He was barely audible above the crowd noise and the audio-feed of two large-screen projector setups at each corner of the room, each featuring local television station broadcasts. Every so many minutes some new item would appear on one or another of the broadcasts causing the crowd to react with cheers. Even with a decent PA with adequate volume it would have been difficult to get the attention of the active, excited groups of people. Bunk is not the most dynamic speaker, and the hotel didn't do him any favors.

I gave brief thought to giving a quick yell to get everyone's attention and turning it over to him, but thought better of it. (Mr. Gadgets has a built-in PA... ;->) As it turns out, this was probably a wise choice. Little did I know.

After multiple trips to the mike, Bunk (don't you just love that name? It's just TOOO easy...) was attempting to introduce yet another guest speaker. At this point the TV broadcast from one side of the room seemed louder than usual. Bunk was, apparently, of the opinion that looking over to that side of the room would somehow cause the volume to decrease. I saw a couple of people go to the projector and push various buttons on both the main unit and on a remote. No results. I stood up, walked over, took about two seconds to find the audio connector I fully expected would be feeding amplifier and disconnected it. Problem solved.

Bunk left the stage, came over and berated me for 'touching the equipment'.
He turned back and I reached down and reconnected the feed. I then proceeded to attempt to lower the volume on the projector, unsure that I was pressing the right button. (It's not that my eyes are bad, there's just never enough light... ;->) Nothing seemed to happen. Several seconds later, the volume decreased. I assumed someone from the hotel staff had finally awakened from their nap and turned down some amplifier somewhere.

I went back to my chair. A few minutes later, the speaker was finished, but the volume on the broadcast had not returned, much to the chagrin of the crowd on that side of the room. Whatever magic that had happened to lower the volume seemed to be reversing itself to restore the audio signal. I figured I should go at least attempt to reverse that which I had apparently accomplished, though I was at a loss as to the delay in the result. I adjusted the volume to the satisfaction of the information-hungry viewers.

Who should once again by my side but good 'ol Bunk. He laid into me again about not touching the equipment. He finished off with, "It's not a big deal, just leave it alone." I said, "If you don't want a problem solved, don't ask a Republican to solve it." He retorted with, "I didn't ask you to do it, I asked the hotel personnel." Well, no, you didn't do a damn thing, you just stood there like an idiot looking over into the corner. I would have said this, but at that very moment my candidate was taking the stage to give her speech.

When she was finished, I retrieved my coat, then went over to one of the people I knew from campaign meetings and verified the Bunk was the party chair.

I then walked up to Bunk, who happened to be standing with the State Senator from our county. (An acquaintance, who I have spoken to on multiple occasions, including earlier in the evening and a member of the church where my Father attends. My Father has, in fact been active in the Senator's campaigns.) I told 'Bunk' that he was right, it was 'no big deal' and that this was the first campaign I had ever actively worked. And thanks to him, I would never be active in a campaign again.
(Ironically, that same Senator had thanked me earlier that evening for my campaign work.)

What the hell was I thinking? Getting involved with politics requires that you get involved with POLITICIANS.

Bunk epitomizes everything bad about the Jackson County Republican Party. I now remember some indication of the pettiness and parochialism that seems to prevail here locally.

I submit:
Don't make use of your knowledge and professional experience to fix the problem yourself, wait for the most-likely union worker to get around to it.

This does remind me of a political party, but their symbol ain't an Elephant...

Besides, the little control-freak numb-skull hadn't even thought to ask the hotel to place an American flag on the stage. I pointed this out to some other people I knew from campaign meetings and we procured one form hotel staff. Seemed like a good idea, given all the TV stations had camera crews and talking heads ready to capture the moments.

In the process, I did assume the Jackson County Republican Party was pro-American flag.

I did not inform Bunk of this travesty. Who knows what offense might have been taken at the presumption.

And so, I'm done. I shall not lift a finger for any local Republican again.

I don't pretend that this is of any true importance. Bunk shrugged me off and will never notice the difference. I'm sure he can afford to piss-off people like me.

After all, I'm 'just' volunteering my time.
